How to deal with A Level failure

This post is specially written for those who are struggling to take the next step after receiving not promising A Level results.

If you guys aren't well aware, A Level is a preparatory course for students who are bound to study overseas, preferably in the UK. It may take 1.5 years to 2 years. As for my course, I took the 2 years one which is considered as a waste of time, or not since I couldn't continue my studies in Canada anyway. Well in Malaysia, if you didn't get to pursue your studies abroad, you can always enrol into any private universities given that your family is filthy rich (or maybe you're a sponsored student). Then, what happen to those who come from middle class or lower families? How can they afford the fees and all?

Okay first thing first, I hope you find this post at least before April. If you already noticed that you're having a hard time coping with the A Level syllabus by that time and the thought of not passing it ever crossed your mind even once, you need to prepare yourself. Buy a pin number from the nearby BSN to apply for UPU. You can google what a UPU is and trust me this step is really important. I wasn't confident really during my time but I thought it was a hassle having to think of a back up plan. In 2016, the UPU results came out earlier than A Level results so all the students who had applied for it was automatically not given a place in any IPTAs. But fret not, you are still eligible to ask for an appeal. Without the first UPU application, you can't proceed with the appeal. So yeah, DO IT.

Another tip is you can prepare yourself by requesting recommendation letter from the institution you're doing your A Level with. There are certain universities that require recommendation letter from the lecturers. It doesn't do any harm to prepare early.

Secondly need I remind you, it is not the end of the world. I knew that when I got my results but I still cried because who wouldn't feel sad knowing that their dreams will just stay as dreams after all.

Don't ever give up. You can dwell in sadness for a few days but then buckle up. It's not gonna be a smooth ride after this. You need to stand up and wake up with a new motivation to better yourself after this whether in studies or in your life. Facing humiliation from relatives and friends, the sadness and the void you feel seeing your friends updating their Instagram with photos of them at the airport or arriving at their overseas universities, turn them into a fuel to light up your new will and spirit to change yourself. On the other hand, don't despise your friends because they worked hard to achieve their success ok? Your time will come, just pray to Him. As for other humans' judgements, ignore them. Tell your parents that you're uncomfortable or not ready to face them. They aren't the ones who feed you. Conclusion is, you're not gonna die from one failure. So cheer up.

Let's say you miss the first important step, don't worry. I have one friend who applied for an admission to University Malaya by sending letters to the dean and related officers (I'm not sure if it's an appeal letter or not). And she finally got an offer, good for her.

In any case, if you can afford private universities it's best to apply for admission at the same time you apply for admission to overseas universities (before A2 exams) or earlier or whenever their application is opened.

Side note, students who want to take the bursary offer, the government doesn't allocate expenses anymore for you guys who plan to study abroad.

I did mention that taking a 2 year A Level course is considered a waste of time but it could be otherwise and this depends on you. As you enter university, the first few chapters of your lectures are just refreshing and revising what you have learnt in A Level. You are actually more advanced than your friends who took foundation because A Level covers more topics. So, in class you are able to grasp the foundation to your studies in case you end up with lecturers who aren't really experts in teaching (even though that's their jobs). At least, you're not a lost cause ok?

I will update this post in the future if needed since I wrote this post in one sitting. I didn't make a note beforehand so yeah forgive me for any missing points or anything.

Good luck and all the best. Do pray for me too.

p/s: if you want to ask anything just dm me I don't mind, even if you read this post in 2020.
