Sushi making class

My Japanese class had planned this a few weeks back. Actually, it was our sensei's idea during the early of semester but we only had time on week 14 to do so.

Couldn't sleep the whole night before not because I was excited or anything. It's just I've fucked up my sleeping pattern. Having no class for the past few days plus the fact I couldn't pray had given me the privilege to sleep late and wake up not caring what time it is in the afternoon. 

We arrived at Aeon around 0845, the doors were not even opened yet. Our instructor? was called Shah-san and he was very helpful throughout the event. We started by taking care of our hygiene which was washing our hands (but then we continued playing with our dirty phones using the already washed hands so what is purpose). Shah-san taught us basic Japanese terms like おはようございます and いっらしゃいませ which we already learnt in class but there were new words like rice tub ➜ はんぎり and rice paddle? ➜しゃもじ (sorry I'm too lazy to look em up) and then the chef proceeded to show us how they handle their sticky rice using both tub and paddle. Some of us tried doing something with the rice. He said not to squeeze, just spread the rice yea leave that to some 20ish year olds with too much energy to do that.

Now comes the best part. The first hand experience on how to make sushi 🍣. We made 7 sushi altogether; nigiri (my whole life I believed it was called onigiri I have lived 22 years in such lies), 2 gunkan maki, inarizushi? (this once I googled cause I can't remember but then again I don't recall the chef saying this name), futomaki? or hosomaki?, uramaki and temaki. We used that rolling thingy makisu? It was fun even though I don't really eat sushi hahah. The rice balls were prepared machines so that eased thing a bit. I'll the process in details later.

There was mini competition but I didn't participate cause apparently I have no hidden talent in making sushi. We took photos and got a bento each. Tried to finish it during dinner but I'm full af.

I straightaway fell asleep once I reached my room. Overall it was a good experience 😋

PETRONAS Discover UTP

Heyyo!

So the other day, my friends and I went to to PETRONAS Discover to ask about our pending fees since exams are around the corner and students have to settle their outstanding tuition fees in order to sit for the finals. If you don't know, PETRONAS Discover is some sort of an office (well I'm not sure myself) where many? PETRONAS officers who are in charged taking care of local sponsored students' affairs are stationed there. I bet many students don't know that the office is opened for them to study there or hold group discussions or anything academic related. I just like going there mainly because of its super cold air conditioner. And you know me, I dislike sweating strongly.

Wow, it took me nearly one whole day to sort out my blog. If you haven't noticed yet, I deleted some posts, edited some old ones and republished them just now. I also added a new label, label x. This label indicates that I need to do some further changes to the tagged posts. I can't do it now due to time restriction but I'll come to that later, maybe after I finish my final examination (which is around the corner!). Blogger has recently updated its interface and I'm able to insert emojis now into my posts! Yeay!

Anyways, I've been on blogger hiatus for a month and a half. I kept telling myself to blog as soon as I finish my assignments but you know how in university, assignments are never ending. So in this post, I'm going to compile all the stories and events accumulated for the past month.

Event 1

Last 3 week (I think?), me and my friends went to Aeon Kinta City, which is the oldest Aeon in Perak if I'm not mistaken. They wanted to eat at Seoul Garden so badly and Aeon Kinta City has that. I tagged along since I need to stock up on food and necessities. While I was shopping by myself, they went to catch the movie 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. My other friend went to karaoke by himself. Let me flood the photos below

We also had a meeting between PETRONAS officers and students who were either relocated to local university due to not meeting the minimum requirement to study abroad or were sent back from abroad after receiving their second CM.

Event 3

Last week on Wednesday, we, the chemical engineering first year first semester students, were instructed to present our  group assignments to be evaluated by lecturers and peers. The marks will be carried into the final examination. My group chose to do organic chemistry related board game instead of making a music video. Lol, we went with the easier one but more costly? Hahah pardon my english. Bought a Monopoly board game just for the sake of those tiny but pricy figurines. We ended up not using those 'askar'. They served more as aesthetic purpose. As long as we wasted our limited student allowance together, then I'm fine with it.

5 MYTHS REGARDING A UNIVERSITY STUDENT'S LIFE

1. You can choose to attend a lecture or not it's up to you --- which is a total bullshit. Here in my university, students need to have 90% attendance in order to sit for the final exam. Back in my days in KDU College, minimum required attendance was only 80% every month. And everyone (not everyone ok but many people) cares. 
2. Free period is free period --- Also a lie. You'd think certain class is cancelled for the day and you have the whole free period to yourself. Maybe take a nap or two. Don't be deceived!! The next thing you know, some other lecturers have decided to replace those periods with their classes instead.
3. A balanced academic timetable. Again, you'd think the daily schedule provided to you at the start of the month seems perfect. A nice amount of break between classes for you to catch a breath or have some meals or do your zuhr' prayer. LIES ALL OF EM ARE LIES. I've been sweating a tonne because I have this class at 1pm to 2pm (this is a weekly 'replacement class') and another class from 2pm-5pm. Tell me where am I supposed to selit my zohor prayer?? I'm not even exaggerating when I say those classes are at the opposite of each other. Dahlah kena rush jalan, kena rush solat lagi?? What the heck, I'm studying at a Malaysian, supposedly-an-Islamic country university that should prioritize prayer time for the convenience of the students. Then I have to go to class feeling uncomfortable because of all the sweatings I've done. I know I'm the only few who experienced those kind of nuisance but please.
4. Where to dine is always a tough decision. Hahah fret not my friends. In my university, there are only 4 places that me and my friends go to to have meals. We don't have to choose where to eat because it depends on the time and place that we are at at the moment. Not much choice but it's a lot way easier that way. Unless you have a car and you can go anywhere you like without limitation, then you may encounter this kind of problem.
5. EVERY WEEKEND IS OUTING TIME! Well, NO. You'd be surprised at the amount of homework and assignments you have accumulated along the week. Good luck with that. I do go out once in a while with my friends to Aeon but mainly because I have to stock up my food and nescafes and teas.

Third week in UTP

Yes, this is my third week in my university. I already had some quizzes (in fact they said you'll have quizzes every week so YEAY TO STUDENT'S LIFE!), assignments and revisions done. Weekdays are pretty mundane since I had to go through everyday routine: classes, assignments (again), quizzes (AGAIN), discussions and apparently experiencing everything a student life should be.

Yesterday morning I had to wake up early since I need to search for references to do my lab report. Well unfortunately, my lab group is assigned under a quite strict lab instructor so she had our class to type out our reports instead of doing the old school writing and filling up by hands. Doing so, I kinda feel like an actual university student ya' know. Doing research and stuff at library and gosh I'm only a first year student.

In the afternoon, me and my friends, we rented a car to go to Aeon Klebang. It was an hour journey but my finding wasn't disappointing. Aeon Klebang is much better compared to Aeon Bukit Indah in Johor Bahru. They have Kaison, Cotton On, Brands Outlet and H&M here, I like it. Ugh I just had to gather every ounce of my self restraint not to buy unnecessary items in Kaison. The watermelon and doughnut pillows are so cute, the notebooks, the bed sheet and the plushies! I'm kinda relieved that I haven't gotten my license yet cause you'll be finding me roaming there every weekend. But nah, I need to save some of my allowance.

On Sunday morning, I woke up early (if you consider 9 am as early) and straight did my assignments. Was working on it until 2pm, without taking a shower first or even meals. Ah, the struggle.

First two weeks in Perak

Salut.

It has been two weeks since I registered as an undergraduate student here and everything's alright so far. I don't mean it as there's no problem here and there, but I am surviving and still breathing.

Regarding my uni, I prefer not to insert its name because I don't like it if my blog pops up whenever people google my uni so can we just leave it there? (I mentioned it a few times before in my previous posts if you're wondering)

So far, I think I'm ok here. I don't have to worry about the internet because they provide the students with two options to surf the net 1. Monthly data (wifi) of 22.5GB which can be used anywhere in the campus and 2. Ethernet? I don't know the proper term, sorry >,< which is available at students' accommodations area. Basically, you just have to plug in the LAN cable from the port to your laptop. The thing with my MacBook is IT DOESN'T HAVE AN ETHERNET PORT SO I HAVE TO BUY AN ADAPTER FOR RM139.00 but yeah, anything for my baby.

Also, the meals here are quite cheap and they taste good too. I can just survive with any lauk ayam and what I like the most about our village cafes is that they have paru goreng sambal which is my favourite and you don't have those in Canada ahah! (sorry I'm trying to make myself feel better). As I like to take my own sweet time indulging my food, I always just tapau and eat it in my room while watching some animes or K dramas.

What else. Hmm although I think this as a downside, walking for 20 minutes everyday to the academic buildings do serve as an exercise for me since I'm not a fan of doing workouts. Man, the sweats I produced per day ugh I just don't wanna think about it. Thank God the lecture halls are cold. Many students here drive to class or ride bicycles. So, my new goal is to save some money for driving classes and license and also to buy a car because damn I can't even imagine doing all this walking for 4 FREAKING YEARS NO JUST NUH.

Anyways, I edited two videos I recorded since I arrived here and already uploaded them on my YouTube channel for fun but they are certainly not fun to watch though.

We have a 3 days holiday during my second weekend here but I didn't have class on Friday which makes it 4 days for me. Asked my aunty (she lives 'nearby') to pick me up so that I can buy some stuff for school and spent 3 days in Ipoh. Didn't do any exciting stuff actually but I got to experience what it's like living in Perak. Everytime you're on the road, it feels like you're driving on a highway because mountains are literally everywhere (that explains the super damn hot burning weather). Even from my room window, all I can see are mountains which is good because they make me feel calm. Still, I like Johor Bahru and KL more, city life suits me (not that I always go out I just like the feeling of the city being alive all the time, knowing that there are people out there that haven't gone to bed yet. Also, the high accessibility to do anything).

This is the cat that my aunty keeps. It is really fat and only responses to her calls and didn't even bat an eyelash at me. In fact all her pet cats treated me the same. Oh well, my village cats are much more manja. Gesel-ing me while doing my laundry.

On the way back from grocery shopping, my uncle went sightseeing a bit at Muhammadiah Mosque in Ipoh. It has the chinese architectural designs. At first glance anyone would've thought it's a temple.

They sent me back to campus after Zohor yesterday and I, of course, procrastinated a bit before settling down and arranged my stuff.

Look what we have here, the most expensive thing I bought during the weekend. A printer with photostate machine/ scanner. I like it better wrapped so I just leave it like that, all covered.

It is Sunday today and tomorrow's gonna be a big day for me. After a month and a half of waiting, suffering and being slowly mentally tortured, I am finally going to continue my undergraduate studies! Yes, finally. It is quite embarassing that my younger sister of one year has already started her university life way earlier than me but we do our stuff at our own pace and time and that is certainly not a bad thing ok? I'm trying not to push myself too hard, I mean like blaming myself more than necessary.

Again, it is not my rezeki apparently to attend UofA and I still do feel devastated about that but UTP is okay lah. Although the fact it is more than 8 hours journey from my hometown to reach there kind of sadden me but it is not in my will to change school or anything since I don't have 50k to pay back to my sponsor.

Oh well, to anyone who reads this (probably my sister only) do pray for my future undertaking. I just had enough with 'not going to study overseas' matter. I just wanna have a peaceful life doing my degree here.
